Coming Soon to a Target Near You...

Jet skiing in the parking lot.  Just watch out for the cart corrals.

Sorry, I had to remove this photo.  Even though Tim took the picture, he was doing so on behalf of the City, therefore the photo was technically the property of the City.  If you saw the comments, you know that somehow the Iowa State Daily caught wind of this crazy shot, and requested to publish it.  Because the City does not want to encourage the public to perform such unsafe acts as jetskiing in flooded parking lots, we are removing the photo to prevent it spreading to the media.  But hopefully you already saw it and got a good chuckle out of it. :)  Sorry to those of you who missed it!
Thankfully the water has now crested and is receding.  Our house stayed completely dry, and for that we are grateful!  So far we have simply been affected by closed roads, and just recently, contaminated water.  Here's the breaking news:

Update, 2:55 p.m.: City of Ames officials say that a large water main break under Squaw Creek has drained a city water tower, resulting in the distribution pressure dropping to a dangerous level.

As a result, the city has shut down water supply from the Ames Water Plant and has issued a boil order effective at 2:30 p.m.

According to officials, any water still accessible at Ames homes or businesses should be considered potentially contaminated and any water used for consumption should be boiled first.

The city indicated that a limited amount of water will be available after the shutdown.

Water pressure is expected to be restored after the repair to the main break, but it could take as long as 24 hours. The city said the boil order could be in place for much longer.

At the Fareway market in downtown Ames, supplies of bottled water were sold out by 3:30 p.m. Store officials said more was on its way from Boone.  (Source.)

Tim called me at 3:00 and told me the news, and we jumped in the car and headed to Fareway to buy the last 4 gallon jugs of bottled water.  This is crazy, folks!

If you want to come and visit us...

...you might just need to come by canoe.

Our fair city is under water today.  Tim's job today includes climbing the stack of the power plant 9 times on the hour to document the "Great Flood of 2010."  It's predicted that the river will crest 1-1/2 feet above the '93 flood stage. Our town is literally cut into thirds now with the road closures.

Here are a few of the pictures he emailed me from work so far:

South Duff Avenue

Wal-Mart (top left), and Target (bottom left).  Sure am glad we did our Target shopping yesterday!

Check out the canoe in the top left of the picture!

Coldwater Creek Golf Course.  Not the best day to play a round of golf.

Today we are thankful that our house is located on high ground, and our basement is water tight!
