Awhile back, when I realized that Audrey had most all of her children's books memorized word for word, I thought "why don't we put this skill to some more productive use?" So, in addition to Curious George, we've been working on memorizing a few Bible verses. By far my favorite is hearing Audrey's sweet little voice saying "Chiwdwen, obey my parents, in the Ward, for this is wight." (She still can't say the letter 'l,' and let me just say, it is stinkin' adorable!") But a few months ago we were hanging out with her cousins, and discovered that they had just memorized one of the same verses that we were working on...to this great tune!
Audrey picks things up so much faster when they are set to music, and she simply ADORES her cousins, ("Wewwy & Wiberty," Audrey-speak for Welly (nickname for Noël) & Liberty), so she's enjoyed watching this little movie over and over again, and learning the verse while she's at it.
Another great resource we recently discovered based on the advice of some friends and family is Steve Green's Hide 'Em in Your Heart CD set. Audrey received the set for Christmas, and can now often be heard singing throughout the house, "In my Father's house are many mansions!" Most days we sit down at the table to eat lunch and Audrey says, "I'd wike to wisten to some Steve Green, pwease!" The only downfall to our frequent listening is that I often find myself lying awake in bed at night, singing in my head over and over and over again, "G-O-D is L-O-V-E." Time to get out some adult music to wind down...
